Wallington Farm Shop

Selling beef and lamb reared on the estate’s wild moorlands and lush pastures, alongside home-cured bacon, pork and sausages, Michael and the dedicated butchery team at The Wallington Farm Shop deliver some of the best produce in the region. The only National Trust farm shop in the North-East and Yorkshire – and still one of only a handful nationwide within the conservation charity – it has gone from strength-to-strength since it was opened six years ago.
All of the meat sold at the shop is RSPCA Freedom Food checked and has Defra full traceability so people will always know that the animals were well looked after and where they came from.
The Trust also aims to keep food miles to a minimum from plot to plate. The furthest farm is five miles away from the shop. The abattoir used at Whitley Bay is Freedom Food approved, so stock travels to the coast and back again, approximately 50 miles. Consumers can rest assured that our food miles are pretty small.
The Northumbrian Farmhouse is delighted to work closely with the team at The Wallington Farm Shop to give our customers the best food that the region can provide.

The Lamb Man - Jimmy Bell at East Wingates Farm

Jimmy’s family has lived and farmed in Northumberland for over 400 years and currently farm at East Wingates, Longhorsley, near Morpeth. The East Wingates flock consists of 450 breeding ewes which produce 120 replacement ewe hoggs and the lambs for the butchery, this makes the flock a closed unit giving complete traceability, with only the rams being bought from a neighbouring farm. The Lamb Man is presented with the cup for the best turned out stall at Alnwick Christmas Farmer's Market by his Grace the Duke of Northumberland. The Lamb Man sells home-produced Texel-cross lambs which are in the top M.L.C. grade from our prize winning flock. The lambs are slaughtered at the local abattoir and delivered back in their chiller van to be stored in our on-farm butchery cold room.

George Payne Butchers

George’s listing as one of Rick Stein's Food Heroes comes about because of the quality of the meat he sells. It is fully-flavoured and suitability impressive no matter what the occasion. Winner of many awards for his produce, much of the meat George sells is from the county of Northumberland and for traceability and consistency of quality, the business only has one supplier for beef and one for pork. Currently George has 3 lamb suppliers to achieve better continuity of supply. George remains committed to putting the taste back into food. For more details visit: www.georgepaynebutchers.co.uk
